Bar Stools

Renovating my pub was definitely a big deal, but for the most part it wasn't as big deal as it could have been. The counters, the wall decor, the bar itself – everything was pretty easy to decide. Even the tables in the dining area were pretty easy to pick out, because the company was connected to a furniture manufacturer which provided classy furnishing which matched its floors and counters. About the only thing which wasn't easy to pick was the bar stools.

You see, we had had the same bar stools for years. Sturdy steel mounted saddle bar stools, embedded in the concrete foundation, I mean they were in there like they were never going to get out. But once we got around to the redesigning of the bar, this began to be a problem. The seats were comfy – padded leather bar stools which made you never want to get out of them, which is nice for keeping your regulars in. But the seats of the bar stools were far gone and, when we looked around, we found out that they don't even make that style any more.

Now, with the kind of bar stools which mount into the ground, the permanent kind which don't get knocked over or get thrown in fights, you'd think that they'd make them modular, with seats that can be easily interchanged. Not so. We looked all over, and every bar stool manufacturer had different diameters of seats, and many couldn't even be removed. Not much point to having bar stools which will last forever, with seats that won't, is there.

To rip the bar stools out of the concrete would have cost a fortune, and after we had already designed the bar around having to keep them in the same place, it wouldn't have exactly made sense to do anyway. To get completely custom stools would have been a pretty penny too. It's a good thing that I'm good with my hands. I had to hand re-upholster each of the stools myself.

At the beginning, I was livid and grouchy, but once I realized the fun of getting to pick out, design, and build the bar stools myself, I warmed up to the idea. Now, the pub has re-opened, and everything fits in perfectly. The patrons love the new look, and business has never been better. Now, if I could only find some new help who would actually don their jobs!

Banjo Lesson

My first banjo lesson was a disaster. Well, I suppose it wasn't technically my first banjo lesson. Actually, I had been taking online banjo lessons for a good while, and honestly thought that I knew what I was doing. There was a website with videos of some guy strumming which you could download, and tabs which you could pick along to to your hearts content. I had my first banjo lesson online months ago, and although I was a bit of a slacker about the whole thing, only learning those songs and techniques that interested me, and ignoring the rest, still, I thought that I had started to get somewhere.

My first banjo lesson certainly smothered that illusion under a half ton of disappointment. I got there and tried to show off. He looked at me and I immediately missed a chord. This is my first instrument, and the first time I've ever played in front of someone else on it. I figured that it would be a piece of cake. I've never had any problem speaking publicly to a whole room full of a hundred people, so what should be so hard about a banjo lesson where it was only me and a teacher. The whole thing should be easy, right? Wrong. It was terrible.

What I don't understand is how I am ever going to learn anything from my banjo lessons if I can't even play in front of my teacher. I mean, I guess he is nice and accommodating, and besides that a hell of a banjo player. He showed me some great exercise which I could use and practice for my next banjo lesson, and that was definitely very helpful. Not to mention how much you gain just from having the opportunity to closely observe and work with a great player. But really, will I sound any different during my next banjo lesson?

If I can't play in front of him, how will he even know if I'm making any progress. For that matter, how will I even know if I've learned anything from one banjo lesson to the next. I mean, it just isn't possible to get feedback if I can't play in front of him. I've decided to start recording my own playing to play back to him. At first, it might be hard to play, knowing that I'm recording to show at my next banjo lesson, but eventually it will get easier.

Baby Shoes

It's weird how much effort people put into baby clothing, when the fact is that babies are not themselves that fashion conscious of creatures. Oh, sure, they will cry if they are wearing the shirt that they don't like, but all you really have to do is spin them around, or show them something shiny and reflective, and they will begin to giggle and drool just as cheerily as ever. Nonetheless, even baby shoes are a hot topic today among parents.

They will buy all kinds of baby shoes, including baby sneakers, and little ballet shoes, as if the babies were about to go run track, or do a graceful leap through the air. The strange fact is that babies shoes come in almost as many varieties as do adult shoes, and can be every bit as expensive.

Of course, I suppose that the function of baby shoes is a little different than those of adult shoes. With baby shoes, there are a few basic things that they need to do. They need to protect the feet, and hold up to crawling around, and possibly a bit of drool. Adult shoes go through much more than this, often miles of walking every day, to say nothing of running, dancing, and various other activities. The fact is, almost any baby shoes will hold up just fine when the baby is young enough, and not yet walking. Therefore, the other function of baby shoes is just to look cute to the parents, and to their friends to whom they will be showing off the baby.

There are many ways that cuteness is accomplished with baby shoes. One of them is simply through the miniatureness of everything. If you look at babies closely, they are not really actually very attractive creatures. They are pudgy, their heads are too big, and they drool and snot all over everything. So the real thrill that people get out of babies is just that they are tiny, and somewhat odd versions of us. It is the same thing with baby shoes, which look like smaller, pudgier versions of the footwear that we wear on our feet every day. Along with this cuteness, there are certain designs that are more popular among baby clothes, including baby shoes, than among adult clothing. Things like butterflies, hearts, and especially little cute baby animals make a very popular design for decorations on baby shoes.

Baby Monitors

Recently, my wife and I had gone to visit a couple with whom we were regular bridge players. They had recently had a baby and our weekly bridge sessions had gone on a hiatus. Now, almost four months later, we were re-starting the session. Having tucked her baby to sleep, the mother came to the bridge table to join in the game with gusto. We were enjoying ourselves thoroughly when suddenly there was a high pitched noise of a child wailing.

I was utterly startled. Even as the mother rushed upstairs to check on her baby, I was left wondering if it was just me, or had we hear the baby wailing crystal clear from a considerable distance on a different level of the house? Seeing my startled and mystified expression, the husband broke into laughter and explained that it was the remarkable effect of the new contraption they had gotten to monitor their baby. It was what was known as a baby monitor.

Now, I too have a child. But the baby monitor we use is called a maid. And she is a very efficient one at that! But seriously, the only kind of baby monitor I had heard about or seen was the one in the infant’s ward of maternity hospitals. And even there, the monitor was only used to monitor the vital signs of sick babies. Was there something I was missing, or perhaps, unable to see?

Seemed like it, as the husband began to explain all about baby monitors. The baby monitor, according to him, was an indispensable two way radio that was commonly used to monitor infants. Many parents have faced the problem of going about their household chores as the baby lies in another room, seemingly asleep. But they have often discovered that there’s a constant tussle between managing e baby and managing the chores.

Choosing the chores over the baby leaves them feeling like they aren’t there when needed – whether for a nappy change, feeding time or just to pat the baby to sleep. And the problem remained till some innovative soul came up with a simple and effective baby monitor.

A typical baby monitor is a two part gadget. One part is the transmitter, that can be kept near the crib of the baby and the other part is a receiver that is carried around. This way, no matter where in the house you are, if your baby makes a noise, the baby monitor will let you know. Sounds simple right? One wonders why nobody ever thought of it earlier. But it does get better.

Newer version of baby monitors come with multiple receivers that can connect wirelessly with your existing sound system to keep you posted. And some of the technologically advanced baby monitors also come with an in-built camera for you to not just hear your baby, but to see it too. So even if it is moving around and not making a sound, you can still rush to comfort it. Some invention this! I resolved then and there that although my first born was not monitored constantly, I would ensure that my next child would have the facility of growing up with a baby monitor.

As Seen On TV

A person like me should never have a television in the bedroom. Part of the trouble is the fear of missing something very important. I often find myself awake watching television at all hours of the night and I do find a lot of interesting things during the late night hours. Most of the things I find are interesting inventions that are offered only through television. I was happy to find a store in my local mall called As Seen on TV.

This store offers nearly all of the interesting items available on the late night television programs. The store is entirely dedicated to products that are usually only available on infomercials. I was amazed to find the exact same products as seen on TV. Instead of feeding my insomnia with all night programming, I can go to the store like we used to in the old days.

There are a few benefits of going to the As Seen on TV store rather than shopping through television in the late hours of the night. You may be less likely to feel pressured to buy an item if you know that you can visit a store and buy it any time. The infomercials are a little trickier because you never know if you are going to come across that particular item again.

This pressure of not being able to find the product again can lead to irrational shopping. Have the same products as seen on the infomercials at the tips of your shopping fingers at any time can help you think about your purchase before making a swift decision that can leave you with a serious case of buyer’s remorse.

I also like to be able to look directly at the item I am buying. For some reason, I have more faith in a product that I can examine first hand than I do something I see on a screen. Shopping for products as seen on the infomercials in a real store gives me a little peace of mind because I know exactly what I am taking with me. Surprises are not always welcomed in the shopping world.

If I am in the position of desperately needing an item that I can only find on late night infomercials, I may opt to browse for it on the Internet. There are sites that offer items as seen on the television infomercials. Buying online benefits the buyer because you can take your time in making your decision. You can also read feedback about the product from other people who have bought the product.

The products offered exclusively on infomercials often wind up in stores and online. You can eventually find just about any product as seen on these programs. If you are a fellow insomniac, make sure that you fight the urge to make quick buying decisions. Try visiting your local mall or try browsing the internet. Shopping is always best done when you are wide awake.

Antique Photos

If you have antique photos in your basket of family heirlooms, then it is important to take care of them. Antique photos depicting certain events or people have value to collectors, but this value cannot compare to the value a family may place on them.

Caring for antique photos is important because if they are not properly cared for, not only do they lose value, but they also can be destroyed. One thing that is important to remember is to keep antique photos out of direct sunlight. Light, especially direct sunlight, is harmful to antique photos. Direct sunlight makes the ink used on the photos fade, so it is hard to see what is going on in the picture. Artificial light does not fade them quite as much, in fact, not really enough to be able to tell a difference.

Another thing to remember about them is not to bend them. When an antique photo is bent, a mark is permanently one the photo. Since many antique photos are on a card board type material, if the photo gets bent it breaks up the picture and you will see the card board and not the photo itself.

Among collectors, not all antique photos have high value. There are certain events that pictures are taken of that are worth more than others. For example, an antique photo of a wedding party is worth more than just a random picture. But even wedding party pictures have differing values; the more people in the picture the higher the value of the photo.

Also, if the people in the picture seem a little more high class (the clothing is expensive within the time period of the photo), then the photo is worth a little more than if it were of a lower class family.

Sometimes antique photos with only one person are valuable. If the photo is of little children, it can be valuable. Antique photos of famous people are often valuable, too, especially if the photo is signed by that person.

Many people like to label their photos. This is not always a good thing to do to antique photos. If you use a pen to label the photos, it is possible that the ink might react somehow with the ink in the photo. If you must label antique photos, it is better to use a pencil of some sort. It is better for the picture because the graphite will not react. Another benefit of pencil is that if you decide you do not want it labeled, then it is easier to erase than pen.

If you have antique photos and would like to know exactly what they are worth, then you should go to an antique appraiser who specializes in dated photographs. They can study the images and will be able to tell you if you have a treasure or not.

Answer Job Interview Questions

No matter how impeccable your resume is, how many past accomplishments you can tell about, or how much related experience you have in your field, a prospective employer will likely base his or her hiring decision on how well you can answer job interview questions. It's a well-known fact that many applicants do poorly during the Q&A session because they are not prepared enough. As a result, they stumble over their words, say the wrong things, or resort to making up responses. The interviewer can immediately see through that kind of charade, and will not give the applicant a second thought once the session is finished. You don't want that to happen to you. By spending a bit of time researching the best way to answer job interview questions, you'll give yourself a huge advantage over your competition.

There are several sources you can go to in order to learn how to answer job interview questions. First, you can try the Internet. Since nearly everybody needs to look for work at some point in their lives, there are lots of very helpful websites run by consulting firms, recruiters, employment agencies, and HR specialists. These people have a lot of experience with hiring people, so they know what kinds of things the interviewer is likely to ask you. On the websites, you'll find numerous examples of how a confident, well-spoken candidate would answer job interview questions. And because these are the most common inquiries, you'll be able to rephrase the responses to make them fit your own life or work history.

Another great source that will help you prepare to answer job interview questions is resume-writing software. As you probably already know, there are some great programs on the market that practically write your entire resume for you. Well, often packaged in with the software are tutorials designed to coach you through different interviewing situations. These tutorials usually consist of video clips showing actors playing the roles of interviewer and interviewee, which means you'll actually get to see and hear the best way to answer job interview questions. Words often come out different when they're spoken rather than just read from a piece of paper, so watching these types of videos would be an excellent way to prepare.

Finally, practice makes perfect. In order to get a feel for how you would really answer job interview questions when you're sitting in the hot seat, have a friend or relative to play the role of the interviewer. All you have to do is write out several different things you want to be asked, then give your responses. If you really want to critique your performance in detail, you should record the session with a camcorder, then honestly evaluate what you see.

It takes a lot of hard work, determination, and perseverance to get hired these days. By taking the process seriously and preparing yourself to answer job interview questions the right way, you'll significantly improve your chances of landing the position. So get started on your research today!

Acrylic Nails

One of the newest trends in nail care and style is acrylic nails. These nails come is a number of designs and colors catered to the customer’s tastes. The nails are commonly applied for a special occasion, but many women opt to use acrylic nails as part of their regular beauty routine. Applying the nails is a wonderful way to lengthen and strengthen short, brittle nails.

Some people use the nails to deter themselves from biting their nails. Nail biting is a difficulty habit to break. Artificial nails are a wonderful deterrent for the habit because the nails are quite strong and nearly impossible to chew. For this reason, many people choose to maintain acrylic nails on a regular basis. This prevents the splitting and breakage commonly found in natural nails. The bi-weekly maintenance for artificial nails is less trouble than maintaining natural nails.

Many nail technicians suggest that acrylic nails should be cared for as if they were natural nails. It is a good idea to avoid exposing the nails to water for an extended period of time. The water can seep in between the acrylic and the natural nail, causing damage and possible infection. Wearing rubber gloves when washing dishes is recommended, but aside from that, artificial nail wearers can go about their usual routines without worry, especially if the nails are applied using quality materials.

The acrylic nails that are created by mixing a powder with a liquid. Nail artist literally paint and shape the nails into place using this mixture. The liquid recommended by most professional nail technicians is Ethyl Methacrylate, or EMA. Ethyl Methacrylate is a little more expensive than its alternative, Methyl Methacrylate or MMA. Methyl Methacrylate is commonly used because it is more cost-effective. However, MMA is linked to a number of harmful side effects, including skin irritations and irregular nail growth. Most nail artisans urge customers to choose Ethyl Methacrylate because of its superior quality. Excellent materials and proper nail care insures consumers that their nails will enhance their hands with style and safety.

Once care and maintenance are in place, a regular acrylic nail customer can concentrate on nail color, design and trends. One of the classic nail color combinations is found in the French manicure. This design is simply a natural nail color accompanied by white tips. This is a popular option for many women because the colors compliment any outfit. Some customers are a little more daring and want to play with color. Nail artists create a plethora of designs ranging from stars to teddy bears.

In addition to color, many customers choose to add a little sparkle. Nail artists and technicians offer inserts that can be imbedded right into the acrylic. Popular choices include tiny gems and stickers that come in a large range of shapes, designs and colors. A very popular current trend is nail piercing. A nail technician pierces the nail with a piece of jewelry. This procedure would be nearly impossible on natural nails.

A typical nail application service takes about an hour. Maintenance visits to the nail salon usually run about twenty minutes. The process is relatively brief and inexpensive. Acrylic nails are a cost-effective, easily maintained enhancement to a person’s grooming routine.

Cheap Computers

What kind of computer do you use? I personally enjoy a Mac Ibook G4. This baby does everything I want it to and more. It's great the way they make them so compact and they weigh less than five pounds. Technology is a dream these days, and it's only getting better. You can literally buy a notebook computer that's a mere half inch thick, but yet still packs a high level of gigabytes. It's truly amazing. As you know by now, folks around the globe enjoy the benefits of computers in their very own homes. In fact, if you still don't have a PC or Mac, then you're probably slightly out of the loop. Well folks, now days you don't have to grapple with gargantuan computer costs. There is a vast spectrum of to choose from.

What are you looking for?

When it comes to our home computers, many of us would have difficulty getting along without them. There are just so many conveniences that come from Internet access. The World-Wide-Web grants us the ability to do our taxes without paper, handle our bank accounts from home, and order groceries and have them delivered. Wow, now that's ideal.

The great thing now days is the fact that computer prices have come down significantly. It's feasible to purchase and not miss out on the finer features. I can remember just back in 98 when I purchased a massive Gateway desktop computer, and paid like 1600 bucks for it. What a rip-off! These days we would all laugh at such a price tag on such a mediocre PC. I mean it didn't really have anything great or exclusive.

A 15 inch monitor, tower, keyboard, mouse, and 13 gigs aren't saying much. Heck, I only gave a grand for my Apple notebook that has loads more features and 60 gigabytes of memory. Man, did things change. Thank God for cheap computers! Therefore, if you're new to home computers, then I would suggest getting online.

Although superstores such as Best Buy and Circuit City are great for browsing, I still think the best deals are found in cyberspace. Now, I realize that you may not have a computer in order to browse for cheap computers, but one of your buddies or family members surely does.

Get on Google.com and search for the lowest prices on PCs. Dell is one of the finer companies that offer specials on package deals. You can get the entire setup for around 300 bucks. Now that's a lot better than 1600. Yes indeed, the net is loaded with cheap computers now days.

Cable Modem Service

What kind of speed are you dealing with these days? Come on, you know what I'm talking about. We all pretty much resort to our computers on a daily basis. As for me, I would have to say an hourly basis. I work on this thing. This is why I demand a great system and a reliable cable modem service. For all you computer workers out there, you certainly know what I mean. You probably spend a good part of your day on a desktop, laptop, or notebook. The last thing you want to deal with is a slow connection speed. This is why I have turned to Roadrunner for my cable modem service. It's definitely a world apart from dial-up.

Do you work on a computer? Possibly sit in a cubicle all day long, punching away at the old keyboard? Don't get me wrong, I'm not judging; I'm simply observing. My point is, you need a good computer and a great cable modem service to work efficiently and effectively. Although I do most of my work from home, I too need a quality computer and high-speed connection.

Unless you're not jacked into cyberspace, you probably need a reputable cable modem service. Unfortunately not all of them are so great. Believe me, I've had a taste of the bad. After moving to my current location, I decided to test out the local cable modem service. Come on, how bad could it be? Well, since you asked; first of all, they charged a higher monthly fee.

I looked past this at first and gave it a shot anyway. However, after enduring a few months of wishy-washy service, I was fed up. You see, the problem concerned the connection itself. Sometimes there simply wasn't any. This drove me insane. No one wants to be charged every month for a cable modem service and not have Internet access. I thought I should get a discount for the times it cut out, and wouldn't let me online. However, the provider didn't think so. This is why I dropped them. I ended up going back to Roadrunner cable modem service, which has yet to fail me.

Are you in search of a great cable modem service in order to have ideal connection to cyberspace at all times? Well, if this sounds about right, then what are you waiting for? Hop online today and sift through your options. Check out the current deals in your area to ensure the lowest monthly cost.

Cable High Speed Internet

The PC has changed life as we know it. Well, I guess I should actually say the PC and Mac. Regardless of your preference in fine technology, you are surely getting your money's worth these days. Since the mid-nineties, many of us have become accustomed to the home computer. We may have started with those dinosaur-looking desktop computers that came with space consuming towers and television size monitors, but things have certainly evolved over the last decade. The same can be said about our Internet service. These days we hardly remember the gut-wrenching pace of dial-up. It is now the era of cable high speed Internet.

What Internet service provider do you use? Are you a fan of DSL or cable high speed Internet? These are common questions recently. Various providers are always vying for our business. The question we often ask ourselves is; what are you offering and how much will it cost me? Am I right or am I right? Of course we all want cable high speed Internet, but we don't want a fat bill at the end of each month.

Being a fan of cable high speed Internet myself, I have certainly tried my share of services. At first I gave Roadrunner a shot, and it worked well. Then I moved across the country and switched to Comcast. I had no complaints with their service overall. More recently I relocated again. This is when I decided to give the local cable high speed Internet service a shot.

Well, I wasn't so impressed. While the service worked fine most of the time, the prices were higher than what I had previously experienced. This is never good! Shortly after acquiring this new service, I decided to switch back to Roadrunner, which offered the same benefits at a lower cost.

Do you use dial-up? Well, let's hope not. Dial-up is certainly a concept of the previous millennium. Why even bother with that horrific sound and turtle-like speed when you could be enjoying cable high speed Internet at a decent price? If you have not already switched to cable high speed Internet, then jump online today. I think you will be surprised at the reasonable rates.

While some people like to save a few bucks and go with DSL, I can't recommend this. I surf the web for work and play far too much to tolerate a slower speed. These days you can find cable high speed Internet services for reasonable rates. The whole buzz of technology has worn off, and cable high speed Internet has become the norm for any household. See what's available in your area now.

Birkenstock Sandals

If you are a "child of the sixties", then you have to remember the first time you saw someone wearing a pair of Birkenstock sandals. Ugly, rustic, and probably uncomfortable were your first impressions. And wow, were they expensive after you were used to wearing a pair of sandals made from an old tire. However, these were Birkenstock sandals!

It is hard to believe that generations of Birkenstock family members have been designing and crafting footwear since 1774, when Johann Birkenstock worked as a shoemaker in a small German village.

It all started when in the 1890s, Konrad Birkenstock, Johann's descendant and a custom shoemaker himself, had a revolutionary idea. He decided to create a show that matched the actual shape of the human foot. These were all custom made and were a great success. Unfortunately, the next decade brought the introduction of cheaper factory-made shoes and a decline in the demand for custom-made footwear.

However, that did not stop the Birkenstock family. He made an insert that followed the natural contours of the foot and more importantly the arch of the foot, and could be placed in almost any shoe. Konrad and his son Carl improved and refined the arch supports over the next 50 years. Their unique and popular product became known as "footbed supports" and the word "footbed" was registered as a Birkenstock trademark.

Konrad's grandson, Karl, joined the family business in 1954. He wasn't happy that the family company was known for just making the shoe inserts, that frankly were for a limited clientele, people with bad feet. He wanted to create a shoe for everyone that would make them feel as comfortable as if they were walking barefoot. Not that is quite a dream since most people think shoes are the most unnatural piece of wearing apparel possible, only good for protection, not comfort. He took the grandfather's idea of flexible arch supports and combined it with his own knowledge of how the foot works when walking.

It took ten years of research and design, but eventually the first model, the Madrid, the first of the Birkenstock sandals rolled out.

In 1966, just in time for the more casual days of the Woodstock generation, a lady named Margot Fraser bought her first pair of footbed sandals while vacationing in her native Germany. She discovered that the sandals greatly alleviated the chronic foot pain she had experienced since childhood. She brought Birkenstock sandals to the United States and the rest is history.

Today, Birkenstock offers more than 400 styles of Birkenstock sandals, clogs, and shoes. Birkenstock sandals are available in a wide range of materials, colors, and sizes, and new materials and styles are introduced each year. They are still ugly, still comparatively expensive, and still probably the best footwear on the planet.

Best Of The Best Myths

The best of the best myths, urban or social myths, have been given a rigorous going-over. First we grew out of the old folk myths that our parents used as forms of domestic control: we realized that eating watermelon seeds would not grow a whole fruit in our bellies, that crossing our eyes would not make our eyes stick that way, and, sadly, we learned there was no Santa Claus, no Tooth Fairy, no Easter Bunny, no dead man with a hook for an arm….

Most of us let go of thinking if we flashed our headlights at a driver who hadn’t turned his on yet that we’d be in embroiled in gang wars or that if we drank soda with Pop Rocks that we would die an implosive death…. But as is true to form for humanity as an archetype adoring and myth-clutching culture, new myths have evolved.

As Munich freelance writer Klaus Manhart reiterates in his article, “Likely Story,” in Scientific American Mind, humans need myths. The “brain needs a story…” he writes, and the brain needs, once the story is told, to be able to “explain the unexplainable,” [as Manhart notes Joseph Campbell discovered] to follow through on its imperative to “impose order on the world.”

But while justified in why we need myths, we are also called to our accountability when it comes to potentially damaging myths. Enter the brilliant John Stossel, 20/20’s challenging reporter, to deconstruct the media-driven myths of 2005.

As reported by LBN (Late Breaking News), John Stossel will de-mystify his version of the best of the best of myths--numbers one through ten as follows (on ABC’s 20/20, Friday, January 6, 2006:

Number 10: Americans have less free time than we used to.
Number 9. Money buys happiness.
Number 8: Republicans shrink government.
Number 7: The world is getting too crowded.
Number 6. Chemicals are killing us.
Number 5: Guns are bad.
Number 4: We're drowning in garbage.
Number 3: We're destroying our forests.
Number 2: Getting cold will give you a cold.
Number 1: Life is getting worse.

Now granted, minds such as those belonging to Manhart, Stossel, and we who are reading this have to make sense of the world, have to find an explanation for the unexplained (or inane). But do we have to de-bunk all that keeps us going, in faith, in nihilistic determination and malcontented spite? And, further, hadn’t we gotten over numbers 2, 5, and 9 by now????!!

Beach Vacation Rentals

There is nothing quite like being on a sunny beach soaking up the sun. For many people this is their idea of a dream vacation. However the cost of staying in a beach front hotel can ensure that dream never becomes a reality.

There is a great and affordable alternative to staying at a hotel when you visit a warm destination. If you want to save money and not give up the beach front location, consider beach vacation rentals.

One of the most appealing things about beach vacation rentals is that instead of staying in a single room in a hotel, you are afforded all of the comforts of living in a home. This includes several bedrooms as well as kitchen facilities. This can save a family a substantial amount of money.

Finding available beach vacation rentals is actually fairly easy. One method is to contact a real estate agency in the city you are planning on visiting. Quite often they will have a list of all the beach vacation rentals that are available for the period you’ll be traveling. They will also have access to pictures and details concerning deposits and the rental charges.

You can usually find the listing for the real estate agencies when you search online. Another alternative is to visit the website of the city you are planning on traveling to. Most likely they will have a section devoted to the business directory which includes detailed listings of real estate agents. In some cases they may even have a direct link to the agents’ sites which might include some beach vacation rentals.

There are companies that handle beach vacation rentals for different parts of the world. They make a database available that includes a description of the rental, the price, when it is available and the steps necessary to inquire about renting it. If you are traveling to a particularly popular location this can be an excellent choice as it affords you the chance to compare properties and conduct preliminary research well before your departure date.

Although most beach vacation rentals are short-term, if you are looking for something beyond a week or two there are choices available for that as well. Some beach vacation rentals will offer you a discounted rate if you rent for a prolonged period of time. This saves them the trouble of having to look for additional customers and it saves you money.

If you have an unlimited budget you might want to consider a beach vacation rental complete with staff. Many properties come with a staff that will cater to your every need. If you want to relax in the lap of luxury this is the way to go.

Beach Tents

Going to the beach is one of the most popular summer family vacations, and for good reason. Everyone in the family has something to do at the beach. Young children can play in the sand with reckless abandon, older kids can swim and play in the water, while Mom and Dad relax in the sun, read a book, and maybe get a tan. Beach barbeques and campfires are also favorites as the day wears on, and depending on the facilities families can sail, kayak, or play volleyball all day...

If you remember your beach tent!

Though the ideal day at the beach is sunny and clear, rainstorms aren't the only things that can ruin a day at the beach. Too much wind, sun, or sand can also put a damper on the day, especially if there is no convenient shade or shelter. That's why beach tents have become popular with beachgoers, especially families with young kids. Beach tents are lighter weight and easier to set up than standard backpacking tents, and they're easy to toss in your beach tote on your way from the car. They assemble quickly; some designs are even self-erecting, so you can toss the tent onto the sand and it'll set up itself.

Beach tents offer some respite from the sun for those with sensitive skin, and they're a boon to young families with infants. With a beach tent, infants and toddlers can stay in the shade without being restricted to a child carrier or stuck under and umbrella; they're free to play in the tent while the rest of the family enjoys the sun.

Beach tents are also handy for those needing a place to change into bathing suits while at the beach, allowing them to avoid awkward changing sessions in the car or trying to find a convenient restroom or changing room somewhere along the sand. For those wanting to catch a nap, these tents provide a handy place to get away from the noise and sun usually associated with beach trips. Lunch is no longer a sandy mess either, since families can get out of the wind much more easily.

Beach tents come in all shapes and sizes, from full-sided family affairs to simple half-shells which protect from the wind and sun but offer an unrestricted view of the water. Other designs have no walls, providing a roof to keep the sun off but nothing more. On a bright, warm day these can be great, but they don't offer as much protection from wind or prying eyes. Whatever your choice, a well-designed beach tent can transform your next vacation from ho-hum to a great day at the beach.

Beach House Designs

When building a summer home, there are many things which you must consider. Not only should your beach house designs take in to account the size of the available lot, but also the more specific things about the location. For example, when you buy beach house designs, they never tell you how your house will stand up to a hurricane. How about flooding? Earthquakes?

Your vacation home might be where you get away to to dream a bit, and escape your everyday life, but you shouldn't be dreaming when you are planning its construction. Take account of the surroundings and protect your investment!

The bottom line is that getting good beach house designs is never really enough anymore. You must know where you are building, and insure that it is solid enough to accommodate your plans. With the changing environment, there are only going to be more and more natural disasters, and you are more and more likely to have to discard the low, sprawling beach house designs so currently fashionable, to build something more staid and solid – a fortress against the elements.

Before you even get in to the beach house designs, you would do well to do some good research about the area where you are to be building it. You should look at tides and available breakwaters, insure an adequate distance above sea level, and try your best to insure that you are not building in a region of the world which is frequently beset by storms. If you don't want to be paying an arm and a leg to build your dream cottage, you should also research what local materials are available, and then buy a beach house design which can employ these materials in its construction.

Most of all, you should hire a builder familiar with the area. There are probably tens of thousands of people who could draw out perfect beach house designs which will positively make your mouth water, but you don't need the perfect beach house so much as you need one designed for where you are going to put it.

Good beach house designs, like good designs for any building, take in to account the local environment, and the site. They don't blindly seek to create the most sprawling, extravagant structure possible, heedless of the environment. You will be happier knowing that you have built a beach house which will keep you and your family safe for years to come.

Banana Republic Clothing

Okay, we certainly live in a world of fashion. No matter where you reside, you're affected by the trends and styles in some way or another. You simply can't escape them. You may not conform to wearing them, but they'll still shine through your television. Banana Republic clothing is a paradigm of what I mean. Our society is overwhelmed and excited about new and cool styles galore. We love to look nice, and many of us will pay a pretty penny to do so. It's just in our nature.

Banana Republic clothing is a division of Gap if you didn't already figure it out. I was searching for some jeans in Gap one day when I a sales clerk lended a hand. She spoke of Banana Republic, which baffled me. Why would she mention a competitor. Well, it turns out they're more of an ally, or accomplice, depending on how you view clothing stores.

Anyway, Banana Republic, Gap, and Old Navy seem to be working in collaboration. You see the obvious picture. Here are three levels of clothing at different price ranges, therefore appealing to everyone. Hey, isn't that a monopoly? Okay, I guess not exactly.

I first noticed Banana Republic clothing when I was preparing for a photo shoot. I was in need of some high-fashion duds that would rock a camera. The photographer mentioned Banana Republic to me and I checked it out. I have to admit, I liked what I saw. If you're going for a kind of up-beat, high fashion look in a modern environment, Banana Republic clothing is perfect.

Whether many of us males admit it or not, we want to look nice. Although we try and fight the concept that women love men who dress nicely, it's really unavoidable. Women love their men to look good. Ask any of them. They will tell you that a shmo is a tuxedo looks a lot nicer than a shmo in a torn pair of jeans and a dirty T-shirt.

My wife also loves Banana Republic clothing. It offers her a nice business-sheik look for her profession. The prices can be a bit much at times, but considering the clothing she looks at in other stores, I'd say it's rather comparable. If you don't believe me, just take a browse through Nordstrom's or Guess.

If you want to look nice these days, it's going to cost you. Whether you're male or female, you may find a style right for you in Banana Republic. The clothing is suited for those in a business atmosphere, or those who are looking for that nice club attire. Whatever your style, you'll likely find something exciting in Banana Republic.

Astrology Birth Chart

An astrology birth chart is designed to tell you all kinds of information about your life, your past, your personality, and even your future based simply on when you were born. The astrological chart is divided into 12 signs or Zodiacs, and each of them has different phases which correspond to the beginning, middle, and end of the astrology birth chart Zodiac.

Each of these zodiac signs has different implications for your astrology chart, as does your position within that zodiac, and even the year you were born. There are other things considered in an astrology birth chart, such as where the planets were with reference to the astrological signs when you were born, and the movement of other stars in the sky, but your astrology birth chart will keep track of all of these factors.

I used to be a believer in the astrology birth chart, but I look back now and realize how niave it is to believe in astrological charts. An astrology birth chart may be detailed, but that doesn't mean that its true. The key to convinvcing people that something like an astrology chart is true, I think, is come up with the right combination of general statements and things that are apparently true, but can be read basically any way that you want to read them, and to have a balance between optimisim, and challenges in the prediction of ones lifes future course.

Everyone is a sucker for a statement about how they have a great destiny, but will have many obstacles to overcome along the way. It lets them believe that something wonderful will happen to them, and that they are somehow special, but gives them an excuse in the form of “obstacles” for not having met with such success as of yet.

Still, it is kind of neat to have an astrology birth chart and it is hard to not fall for all of the great knowledge and sense of destiny which it can promise you. Who doesn't want to see his whole life laid out before him in a neat astrological chart which can tell them every answer to the questions that perplex all of us – why am I here, where am I bound, what does it all mean.

And there is an elegance to the way that the astrology birth chart is arranged, with all the different signs representing different destinys, personalities, and even body types. But still, it is a mistake to believe in astrological charts.

Ansel Adams Posters

If you’re trying to add some character to the walls of your home, you can’t really go wrong with some Ansel Adams posters. Some of the most beautiful and breathtaking images of the Americas, especially the western United States, are portrayed in Ansel Adams’ photography, and I’m a huge fan of his work. I already have several Ansel Adams posters hanging around my home, and I’m always on the lookout for more.

One of my favorite Ansel Adams posters is his famous image of Yosemite’s Halfdome, with a daytime moon behind it. A particularly striking image of that beautiful and recognizable symbol of Yosemite, this Ansel Adams poster always fills me with a sense of awe and reminds me of my backpacking trips in that region of the country.

Ansel Adams was particularly fond of Yosemite, and did much of his life’s work in the area. Therefore, many Ansel Adams posters are depictions of different scenic aspects of Yosemite. They are by far the best representations of the park I’ve ever seen, and yet even they don’t come close to showing the areas magnificence in its entirety.

Having said that, have a number of Yosemite images around me can at times fill me with the same sense of peace and serenity that I get when I am actually in the famous national park. This is a good feeling to have especially when you actually live in a busy city. While there is of course a certain beauty to cities as well, the bustling, noisy, and chaotic character to them is well balanced with some Ansel Adams posters.

Of course, Ansel Adams took plenty of pictures outside of Yosemite as well. Another one of my favorite Ansel Adams posters is a print of his Tetons and Snake river photograph. The Grand Tetons are one of the most striking mountain ranges in the country, and this image captures their beauty very well. While I’ve only been there once, every time I look at the Ansel Adams poster I am reminded of their imposing nature.

Ansel Adams images have become quite a rage in the last few years, and I’ve seen a rise in popularity in Ansel Adams posters as well. So not only are they great images to have around a home, they’re also very trendy. The kinds of images portrayed in an Ansel Adams poster are completely classic as well; a black and white image of mountains, lakes, trees, beaches, or other natural scenes will never be out of style.

Airport Parking Gatwick

If you are traveling out of Gatwick airport, and you need airport parking Gatwick for your car there, understand this: Gatwick is a busy place. In fact, Gatwick is the busiest single runway airport in the world. British Airways goes on to note "Gatwick is the second largest airport in the UK, and the seventh busiest international airport in the world. Airline Travel Deals

By now, most of us have surely heard stories about airplane passengers being charged extra money for pillows and blankets, the lack of refreshments on most flights, and a general increase in associated costs across the board. People tend to deal with these price increases in one of two ways: they either resign themselves to paying more for their airplane tickets or they try ride out the storm and avoid flying until costs come back down.

Well, I'm here to tell you that there's a better option than the two extremes described above. If you want to save money on your next vacation or business trip, I recommend searching the Internet for airline travel deals before booking your ticket. Over the last several years, a lot of great websites have emerged that offer incredible airline travel deals that most agencies and ticket brokers simply cannot match.

These websites might seem a bit intimidating at first, but once you know what to look for and how to submit your queries, you'll be able to enjoy fantastic airline travel deals in no time. Here's a quick overview of what you can expect from a typical travel website.

First of all, you'll notice that these websites offer much more than just airline travel deals. You can often make hotel and rental car reservations right on the same site. In fact, many websites offer even bigger discounts if you book an entire vacation package rather than just air tickets. This is something to consider if you really want to save some money.

A second thing you'll notice is that most websites have an easy-to-use interface that allows you to choose the best airline travel deals for your departure and arrival dates. You simply enter the city you'll be leaving from, your destination, and the date you wish to depart. You'll then get a list of all the airline travel deals that particular website can offer you. This makes it easy for you to comparison shop until you find a price you're comfortable with.

Finally, I'm speaking from experience when I say that making air, hotel, and car reservations online is a safe and convenient process. I love being able to make all of my travel arrangements at any time of the day or night from the comfort of my own home. I have been taking advantage of airline travel deals found on the Internet for many years now, and I have never had a problem with last-minute cancellations, mixed up reservations, fraudulent charges, or anything of that nature.

If you're tired of paying exorbitant prices for airplane tickets, then I recommend searching for airline travel deals on the Internet. Once you start saving money this way, you'll never want to get your tickets from anywhere else.

Air Fresheners

Air fresheners come in a wide array of shapes, sizes and even purposes. To begin with, there is the simple Spray Can kind of air freshener that you spray around the house or office to purify the air. In fact, with such air fresheners, there is no actual purification involved. The contents of the can are more often than not a sort of a scent that gives one the feeling of inhaling fresh air. No wonder then that such basic air fresheners come in tantalizing scents like citrus bloom, lavender mystique and the like.

There are slightly more advanced air fresheners as well. Typically, these air fresheners integrate with the home or small office electrically powered air purifying systems. While the system purifies the air through a combination of processes like charcoal filters, pollen filters and the like, the air fresheners serve as an add on tool to remove bad odors and to provide a fresh and clean scent. Again, like with the Spray can variety of air fresheners, you have the option of choosing a variety of scents.

In our home, we use this type of an air freshener and there are battles galore about what scent will go into it. While my wife prefers an air freshener that is more citric in nature and often buys pine and lavender scented air fresheners, I prefer the more manly musk scents. The result is that our house has a variety of air freshener scents, depending on which room you are in.

My study has an air freshener that smells strongly of musk and wood while the bedroom has an intoxicating (according to my wife!) scent of lavender. Our kids are gad to have any air freshener as long as the stench of week old pizzas and other debris can be kept at bay!

There are also the industrial variety of air fresheners, which are used in industries, shopping malls, restaurants, hotels and other such places where the quantities of air that need to be freshened are vast and demand more thorough air purification and freshening.

Even horticulturists are known to use air fresheners to promote the speedy growth of certain varieties of plants. Most office building that have a centralized air conditioning plant or system also tend to use industrial varieties of air fresheners to clean and purify the air.

A number of studies have been conducted on air fresheners and the opinions are divided. Most experts believe that air fresheners, being unnatural, are harbingers of doom. They have conducted research that shows that for air fresheners, especially those that come in pressurized cans, the CFC content could lead to carcinogenic results.

Others are of the opinion that if used in moderation, air fresheners have a tendency to negate the harmful effects of bacteria, dust and other irritants commonly found in households. Speaking for myself, I have been using air fresheners for close to a decade now. And I continue to remain hale, hearty and healthy. So I guess I will continue to use air fresheners for some time to come!

Air Fare Deals

Are you looking for air fare deals for your next vacation? You can still consult with a travel agent of course, but your best bet is at the tips of your fingers. The internet is swarming with travel sites that offer great air fare deals, as well as hotel and resort accommodations, all inclusive deals, and cruise/air specials.

You can start by checking out www.expedia.com, www.travelocity.com, www.cheaptickets.com, www.orbitz.com, or the websites of airlines that offer flights to where you want to go. Many times air fare deals with certain airlines are only posted online. If you can be flexible on travel times and dates, then by all means check out www.priceline.com where you can get awesome cheap air fare deals to most any destination.

Sometimes travel is totally dependent on getting just the right air fare deal, which many times is dependent on the time of travel, especially if it is during a holiday or on short notice, etc. If you have to travel at the last minute it is still possible to get reasonable air fare deals; not all seats are filled on all flights, and if traveling alone or with another adult, chances are greater that there will be open seats still available, they may just not be together.

You really must be flexible and not restrict yourself to certain dates and times if you really want a good air fare deal. Last minute specials offered for online bookings are great if you can book immediately or travel at a moment’s notice. The greater your flexibility the greater your savings and the better the air fare deal.

Spring is a great time of year to make travel plans for those long awaited summer vacations and weekend getaways. There are many cheap air fare deals to be found online and out there just waiting for you and your family to discover. Why drive and spend all that time in your vehicle when you could already be there having fun?

Timing is everything and the sooner you know your availability and other pertinent information the sooner you can take advantage of those great vacation packages including hotel and air fare deals for you and your whole family. If you are available for travel during the off season, there are numerous options available for quite a few popular destinations, most with cheap air fare deals to boot! You better get going – no fun having!!

Africa Vacation

Africa is called the “Dark Continent” for its supposed mystery, but there is nothing mysterious about a destination site like this. You should definitely consider an Africa vacation.

Africa is probably the most diverse continent on the planet and a vacation there can hold just as much variety. No matter what you are looking for, an Africa vacation can fulfill all your trip desires. We think of Africa first as a land of jungles and wild animals and that is certainly true. For an Africa vacation, you may want to consider some of the amazing safari adventures, which will take you to places that most people have only dreamed about. Imagine elephants and lions in the wild; that can be part of an Africa vacation.

Although primitive in its beauty and feel, being on a safari does not mean living like an “animal”. Throughout the numerous game preserves and national parks, where you will see nature at its best, are also some of the finest accommodations in the world.

On your vacation, you can stay in guest lodges that rival anything in the cosmopolitan areas for luxury and service. Most of these venues will make you feel like you are a king or queen of all you survey, with excellent amenities you would not necessarily expect on an Africa vacation.

However, the jungles and savannas of Africa is only part of the picture. In South Africa, you can find hotels and resorts that rival any in Las Vegas or other showplace resorts. How about an Africa vacation that includes top line entertainment, casino gambling, unsurpassed beaches? All these are available for both singles and families, accommodating all types of budgets.

In the north, beautiful beach resorts dot the Mediterranean coast as well as the Red Sea. Here a vacation turns into a desert odyssey not unlike Palm Springs, California, except with miles of white sand beaches.

Africa is countless island resorts on the Indian Ocean too. An Africa vacation here could be a private bungalow at a small resort where fresh fish is caught for lunch literally outside the windows of your room. The waters in these areas are pristine and unspoiled, perfect for diving and sailing.

In the north west, Morocco and the Canary Islands beckon with a completely different atmosphere and style. In addition, an Africa vacation here on the Atlantic coast has a completely different environment and culture to experience. You might feel that you are in Monte Carlo or Cannes but with much less expense and a more relaxing atmosphere.

An Africa vacation can be just about what you want it to be, with a variety that you will not find anywhere else.

Accommodation in Australia

Accommodation in Australia is a tricky affair. Once you shell out all the money for airfare to Australia, you might think that nothing can surprise you anymore (I know that's what I thought). It simply isn't the case – they do things a little different down there. Just because it is an English speaking country doesn't mean that you won't be surprised once you get to the “land downunder!”

One of the most popular forms of accommodation in Australia is Australia hostels. People down there travel much more than Americans. So much of the country is pristine, unspoiled wilderness, and there is a ruggedness in the Australian spirit lost to America and Western Europe of today. They don't mind living in somewhat spartan environs if they can live easy and on the cheap, and that's just what Australia hostels are: spartan and cheap.

But for my wife and myself, 20 people in a room with one toilet between the lot of it, staying up all night drinking and singing bawdy songs quickly grew old despite the reasonable rates, and we were forced to reconsider our choice of accommodation in Australia.

The Australia resorts, however delightful and picturesque, were well beyond our means when we went on our vacation, and so it was a choice between plain old camping and hotels. We were successfully tempted to indulge in a few nights of hotel accommodation in Australia, where we could have some privacy and a nice soft bed to rest up in, and then off to the wilderness for us.

Because Australians are so often on the move, it isn't at all hard to find outdoor accommodation in Australia. Both of us already had our backpacks, and sleeping bags, and it was no problem to find tents, pots, pans, portable stoves, and other essential camping gear for very reasonable rates. Some of it we were even able to rent – convenient since we had no plans on lugging a brand new tent back to America when we were done.

Of all the places we stayed, I think the outback had the best accommodation in Australia. Nothing in the world is better than it – lying outside all night with the sky for a blanket and the earth for a bed as they say. Most nights, we didn't even need the tent, as it was during the dry season, but there were plenty of stations each within a days walk from each other, where we could fill up water and replenish necessary supplies.

Book Club Recomendations

You’re away from your literate friends who have similar reading tastes, you’ve been out of school for quite some time, and you don’t have access to a hip librarian or brick-and-mortar bookstore or informative publications like the New York Times Book Review. But you are hungry for some good literature. Where or to whom do you turn?

One of the best ways to find out what books to read is to look at book club recommendations. Of course, you might want to get a feel for which book club personality fits yours first, so here are a few descriptions of the clubs and their typical kinds of recommendations, be they direct suggestions or indirect hints:

MAIL ORDER BOOK CLUB RECOMMENDATIONS

When I was a kid, Mom—a voracious reader—belonged to a mail-order book club. Later, when I was old enough to have my own account, I joined with her. I can’t recall which exact club that first one was, but here are the most popular:

Book-of-the-Month-Club

Quality Paperback Books

The Literary Guild

Each mail-order system is different, but does have one obnoxious trend: they send you a notification of the recommended title (based on the profile you registered with, based on your reading habits) and/or the hottest book of the season. If you get the card first and do not refuse the offer, you get the book…and have to pay for it. If you get the book automatically mailed to you, you have to send it back within a short period of time of receipt…or you pay. This is the only true complaint of such clubs, though a close second gripe is the title listings aren’t all that engaging: for these are not necessarily the current bestsellers but instead may be remaindered or lesser selling titles or books with older publication dates.

TV BOOK CLUB RECOMMENDATIONS

There are two televised book discussion shows that come immediately to mind for me: Charlie Rose’s author interviews and Oprah’s Book Club. (Both are, in my case, American airings, the former showing only on PBS-affiliated stations, but 214 of them nationwide!)
Charlie Rose interviews in all fields, if you will, so only a select number of the shows focus on books, but the authors he interviews are contemporary fiction and nonfiction writers who offer fascinating, intelligent, and personal impetus for reading their books. A few of the authors who have appeared on his show include Maureen Dowd, Tom Clancy, James Risen, Toni Morrison, and Seamus Heany.

Oprah interviews authors, too, but her book club extends further: she reads a lot; she ferrets out the authors of books she loves; and she introduces the book and has a book discussion session on the book. If you find, as I did, that What Oprah recommends is what you have just finished devouring and loving or what you once read and agree is a must-read, then you would do well to follow her recommendations in the future. She has been dead-on about such titles as Wally Lamb’s She’s Come Undone; Kaye Gibson’s Ellen Foster; and, of course, all (or most) of Toni Morrison’s works—books that you must read, as Morrison is one of the best authors of our century.

INTERNET BOOK CLUB RECOMMENDATIONS

There are also a number of quality niche book groups and clubs online. That is, if you are a teen seeking highly recommended books, you will find TeenInk.com to be a super place for finding the best books in your age group. If you are Christian who loves fiction, you will find such communities as FocusonFiction.net to be most helpful in listing and detailing the best books for Christian readers of fiction.

And individual genre sites and top 100 book list sites serve a similar purpose. These include the following:

Nextbook.org – a gateway to Jewish literature (comprehensive archive)

Storycode.com – book recommendations made by way of a unique search tool

Random House’s List of 100 Best novels [of all time] – at http://www.randomhouse.com/modernlibrary/100bestnovels.html

These should be enough to keep you reading happily for years to come!

Books Online

I repeat myself when it comes to the experience of having to shop in a brick-and-mortar store where we serious book shoppers are trying to access a book or magazine or tape on shelves that are blocked by men, women, and kids, laying on the floor, doing their nails, talking on cell phones, or reading then returning the items to the wrong place without paying for anything they have laid their grubby hands on.

I defer to, then, the less intrusive and less sanity-threatening process of researching, finding, and buying books online. That is, because of the genius of Gates, Jobs, and hundreds of others, we can shop for online books and avoid the b.s. of doing so in person…with—God help us—other humans who may not have the respect for books or vendors we have.

But as well as buying books online, we can also find books online that are not for sale but are in the free domain, as they have been in existence, were written, or were approved for re-reading before or beyond intellectual property/copyright laws. In other words, there are thousands of books online that you do not have to struggle to find, buy, or access.

Now when you do a general search for online books, be forewarned: you will get such online books as I describe here. You will also get too many online books results with your search engine from those selling books online…such is the versatility or virtue of the vendors cashing in, etc.. So I will start you off with a list of books online that are not bestsellers, contemporary text books for science class, or any kind of books for sale. All of the following, that is, are FREE books online…literally:

Bibliomania.com – A spunky, user friendly site that aficionados and students of literature alike will find useful. Data base of 2,000 books online is sectored by genre/category—fiction, drama, nonfiction, biographies, religious texts, articles, and more.

LiteratureOnline.com (http://www.online-literature.com/) – easy access, books online include classics, The Bible, numerous (almost all) Shakespearean works, quote database, and hundreds of chapter by chapter summaries.

Project Gutenberg (http://www.promo.net/pg/) – As the site managers describe it, Project Gutenberg’s books online include “203 New eBooks released during October 2002, 1975 New eBooks produced in 2002 (they were 1240 in 2001),” totaling 6,267 Project Gutenberg eBooks.

Wired for Books (http://wiredforbooks.org/) - Not only features books online, but poetry, oratories, and audio versions of literature read by the living writers (reading aloud their own works) and read by writers and literati (reading aloud the works of those long gone but not forgotten).

So maybe when you search and want to find not ALL books online but books that are actually, chapter for chapter and page by page on…line, you might start with those sites I list here…or type in a new search phrase that includes the word “free”?

Book Agents

Finding book agents that will actually work hard for you to help you reach your goals can be a tough thing to pursue. Because of the many different types of literary agents out there, it is important to be careful when choosing one for yourself.

The first step in finding an agent to represent your work is to research their area of specialty. Not all agents focus on works of fiction some are only interested in technical books, while others enjoy pursuing works of poetry. Once you’ve narrowed the field down, you now have to find an agent who has your best interest at heart.

Finding book agents who are on the up and up is not an easy task. In reality, there are not many really good agents in the business. Now, if you are looking for people who claim to be book agents but are instead scammers, bad at their job, unhelpful, or in it only for themselves, there are many to find and choose from. But to find someone you trust who has the experience to sell your work, can become a full-time job.

Good book agents work hard, and got a solid grasp of how to do their job by working for a reputable agent. After learning to talk to publishers and authors on their own and understanding the true ins and outs of the business, they eventually start a business on their own and are then considered legitimate.

They will work for you and never ask anything of you that has to do with money. They will edit books as needed without a charge, as that is part of their job.

Scamming book agents will more than likely ask for payment from you before a book is even sold. Real book agents will not do this; they wait and make the real money as a percentage of the amount you are paid on a book that is sold so this is the first true way to tell scamming agents from real ones.

Scammers will also try and hide their client lists as confidential, but it is usually because these scammer book agents really have no client list at all. Unlike legitimate book agents, scammers will not offer book revisions for free and will usually try to get you to go to an outside source to have your book edited. As book agents, they should definitely have the skills to edit the book for you.

It all comes down to researching book agents and making sure you are comfortable with their business practices from beginning to end. If something doesn’t seem right to you, it probably isn’t so don’t hesitate to move down the list of possible book agents until you find one that meets your needs perfectly.

Best Books

Ever have a craving to read a classic or just a really good book, but don’t know where to go for a list of the best of the best books? Ever have someone—a teacher, friend, parent—suggest a novel from their best of lists that they tell you you must read before you die and wonder what the deal is about that particular title, anyway?

Well, I can’t tell you all the specifics of all the best of the best books in my opinion, but I can give you a few suggestions, name a few more titles that you might want to read if you are stuck for ideas or are one who wants to catch up with all the most popular and most-read (besides The Bible, that is) books of all time.

Best of the Best Books by Title

1984 (Nineteen Eighty-Four), by George Orwell

Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley

The Catcher in the Rye, by J. D. Salinger

Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury

The French Lieutenant’s Woman, by John Fowles

Gone with the Wind, by Margaret Mitchell

The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald

The Handmaid’s Tale, by Margaret Atwood

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, by Douglas Adams

Lolita, by Vladimir Nabokov

Lord of the Flies, by William Golding

Native Son, by Richard Wright

On the Road, by Jack Kerouac

Seize the Day, by Saul Bellow

Stranger in a Strange Land, by Robert Heinlein

To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee

Best of the Best Books by Author

James Joyce-- Don’t be intimidated. Dig right in to Ulysses or Finnegan’s Wake. Or, if your prefer to start “simpler”, start with The Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man.

Toni Morrison – Read everything, especially being sure to cover The Bluest Eye, Sula, Tar Baby, and Song of Solomon.

Ayn Rand – Also a more intellectual writer, Rand still offers unparalleled philosophical fiction (unparalleled in her century, that is…save by Camus and Sartre, of course).

Ernest (Papa) Hemingway—If you like the minimalist, realist style, read everything, especially The Sun Also Rises and A Moveable Feast, as well as the early stories collected in in our time. If you prefer Hemingway’s more popular themes of war, for example, read A Farewell to Arms, for starters.

James Baldwin—Read everything. Twice.

Phillip K. Dick – Read everything. Three times.

Virginia Woolf – Woolf’s writing is primarily stream-of-consciousness, and speaks to a time and a mindset (writerly, at that), so definitely check out Mrs. Dalloway or To the Lighthouse.

John Irving—A most accessible and engaging writer, Irving brings us such poignant works as Hotel New Hampshire and the World According to Garp and such provocative novels as A Prayer for Owen Meany.

John Updike – for a contemporary but full writing style, Updike will delight you with his brilliance and accessibility to his brilliance. Read about the ex-basketball star, following him through the decades of his life in the Rabbit quatrology, or get steamy with Couples, or touch upon mysticism in The Centaur.

So, hopefully, this is enough to keep you reading into your graying years or further. And hopefully, too, you will find at least a few titles for your own best of the best list to pass on to your students, friends, or loved ones. Happy reading!

Audio CD Book

Some people hate read but love literature. How’s that for confusing? And frustrating, if you are trying to buy a Christmas, birthday, or other gift for this person. For example, I have a brilliant friend who is the Albert Schweitzer of computer programmers and developers. It makes sense that working at a computer reading a screen ten hours a day depletes his interest in hard copy text. At the same time, he loves stories, comic tales, and intellectual comedy in general. And he is a devotee of NPR, Car Talk, and other radio talk programs. So the most logical and generous thing to do for him is buy him something that will talk to him, tell him tales, make him laugh: an audio CD book is the thing.

The audio CD book follows the print version exactly, and is [usually] narrated by one who has a traditionally appealing voice—by one who is a performer, a singer, or another kind of radio or television voice. So, for instance, my friend’s audio CD book, Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, by Douglas Adams, doesn’t lose anything in the “translation”. Neither does the self-help book converted to audio, or the epic or longer work.

And some printed books are just prime material for the conversion to audio CD books: books such as Foucault’s Pendulum, written by the brilliant wordsmith Umberto Eco makes for a hypnotic experience when you are on a long road trip, love philosophy, and are compelled by the weaving of a mystery of sorts.

In the same respect, audio CD books are ideal for commuters, who can’t tolerate the commercial interruptions of public radio, are ideal for the elderly or the blind, and provide great auxiliary learning tools for learners with visual, mental, or other learning differences that textual materials fall short for. In fact, in many states and provinces, volunteer and other organizations record books on tape for such needful ones, as do schools and institutions have programs wherein one can order a textbook [the rest of the class is using] to be made into an audio CD book.

Just be prepared, though, when seeking the perfect story or printed material on audio for that perfectly deserving friend: I am still looking [on ebay] for an audio copy of Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale and an audio version of the posthumous work of genius Jonathan Kennedy O’Toole, A Confederacy of Dunces. In the meantime, this Christmas my friend got the complete box set of Monty Python…which he has already delightedly emailed me about at great length, with transcribed clips for me to read while he listens. See what I mean? Some people listen better (or more) than others

Audio Books Online

I just finished writing to you (in another article) all about the maddening, interfering, altogether troublesome experiences for serious book shoppers trying to access products on shelves in physical bookstores when lay-abouts and freeloaders block every *&%&)))(%$$#% aisle. I pointed you in the direction of audio books online by way of the online bookstores and auction spots I frequent. That is, because of the genius of Gates, Jobs, and hundreds of others, we can shop for audio books online and avoid the b.s. of doing so in person…with—ugh—other persons.

For starters, some great sites, such as Amazon.com, EBay (search “audio book”), and Powells.com, offer audio books online for sale. But further, we can also find audio books online, books that are not for sale but are in the free domain, as the books on which the audios are based have been in existence, were written, or were approved for re-reading before or beyond intellectual property/copyright laws. In other words, there are numerous audio books online that you do not have to struggle to find, buy, or access.

Now when you do a general search for audio books online, be forewarned: you will get such items/titles as I describe here. You will also get too many online books results with your search engine from those SELLING audio books online…such is the versatility or virtue of the vendors cashing in, etc.. So I will start you off with a list of audio books online that are not necessarily bestsellers, contemporary text books for science class, or any kind of books for sale. All of the following, that is, are FREE audio books online…literally:

Wired for Books (http://wiredforbooks.org/) - Not only features books online, but poetry, oratories, and audio books online…audio versions of literature read by the living writers (reading aloud their own works) and read by writers and literati (reading aloud the works of those long gone but not forgotten).

Professor Martin Spinelli’s Literary Audio Links page (http://wings. buffalo.edu/epc/sound/links.html) – ample possibilities here. Though not all are audio books online, many are snippets, excerpts and full texts of short stories, essays, and more.

Random House’s Bold Type (http://wings.buffalo.edu/epc/ sound/links.html) – features excerpts of the hottest of literature. Wonderful possibilities, here.

Jewish Stories from the Old World to the New (http://wings.buffalo. edu/epc/sound/links.html) – audio books online, audio excerpts, and audio short stories—read by celebrities and star authors.

So maybe when you search and want to find not ALL audio books online but audio versions of books that are actually, chapter for chapter and page by page on…line, you might start with those sites I list here…or type in a new search phrase that includes the word “free”?

Play Station 2 Games

Remember the video games we used to play back in the day? I mean the ones in the 80s. We had the ever-popular Pac-Man, Asteroids, and Centipeed. Those outstanding innovations were the bomb! I can recall playing Pitfall on my Atari and thinking, it doesn't get any better than this. Okay, so I was wrong. Apparently it gets a lot better than that. In fact, it continues to get better as time moves on. Those darn electronics and graphics always improve. It's a never-ending cycle of fun and amusement. For example, check out some of the more recent playstation 2 games. Wow, what a difference from the old-school Atari. I mean, the game depths alone are amazing. People around the world enjoy these new-age playstation 2 games on a daily basis. Do you have the latest ones?

Are you a big PS2 fan? I was astounded when this console came out. The big pitch didn't only concern the playstation 2 games, but also the DVD option. That's right; you could actually use your PS2 as a DVD player as well. Folks loved this convenient option. Suddenly they didn't need to purchase a DVD player. It was an all-in-one deal. What a bargain!

I recall the first time I headed over to my brother's humble abode to check out his PS2 and his new playstation 2 games. Being out of the video game loop since the first Nintendo, I was utterly flabbergasted at the realistic graphics and sound effects. These new playstation 2 games are just so real. The people are so much different than the classic Atari figures. No more stick men. There was anything from martial arts games to sports games to spy adventures. Who wouldn't love playstation 2 games?

These days children across America take great pleasure in playstation 2 games. They contend with their peers, and battle the bad guys for as long as their parents will let them. One of the great benefits of the PS2 is the versatility. Regardless if you had a PS1, you can play all those old games on your PS2 as well. How cool is that?

If you're on the lookout for new playstation 2 games, you can browse your local Best Buy and Target stores, or simply delve into cyberspace for some incomparable deals. Buy used playstation 2 games for half the price. With the world at your fingertips, you will surely find that playstation 2 game you're searching for.

Play Games

One of the best ways a majority of us relax, stay engaged, stave off boredom, or even blow off hours at work is to play games—video games, computer games (you do know there are a few addictive games in your word program, right?), or online games.

I own over a hundred games from the ever-wonderful bigfishgames.com. I also play games at two gaming sites. One, I still frequent is free (boxerjam—I love that name, never mind that these are where I played my very first games online the very first time—in the early eighties—I went online. (Those were the days when you would dial in, wait while the screeeoooobongbongbong sound thrilled you with an electronic techno-buzz, of course.)

But to play games you can get hooked on as a middle-aged single person who prefers the nonviolent, I recommend Pogo. The play is free if you want, provided you can sit through the intermission—which pops up every too often. But really, paying to play games at Pogo (and I’m sure at other equally fine sites) is very affordable. Especially if you choose to be home bound (because you really can’t stand people in person anymore), never spend money on anything other than food and shelter, and deserve (as every human does) the catharsis playing games affords.

It may be understood, obvious, of just naturally implied but never thought about too intensely, but when one plays games on such a site, one garners multiple benefits:

1.Such platforms or networks or whatever they are called these days allow games to return to their natural form. You can play games like Checkers, a version of Scrabble, or Canasta, for example, with a robot who is as adept as or inferior to you. And the new avatars (mini-me cartoon representations of players/members) have smiles, frowns, even funny red-faced expressions for winning a round, losing a game, conceding to a set or match.

2.In-game chat for real-time games means you get to play games and communicate with others as you play, you wherever you are, they wherever they are, and there is no time lapse. You don’t hear from them three days after you emailed or snail mailed a message; you don’t wait ten minutes as if you are stoned and swearing you took way too long to answer that question; you type back and forth to people all over the world. If you want to. You can, of course, forego the robot opponent and play games with one of those people or even a whole group.

3. So the subsequent benefits of number two are many: gaming online enhances social recognition; bridges distances; encourages the human sentiments of empathy and sympathy (for anything important to the online/human acquaintances…life issues, feelings, attitudes about hard games or dull ones or games acting up); and fills the vacuum of solitary offline game playing.

4. The miracle of online game playing systems also encourages altruism and contributes to technological knowledge development, on whatever level. People in a community help others to navigate, chat, manipulate pc commands/controls, play unfamiliar games, and, in general, help each other to learn new cyber techniques. It’s a beautiful thing.

While we now know, too, that when you play games (of any mode and of certain types), those games help fight off senility, Alzheimer’s, and, in my coo-coo world, the insanity of such needful mental aberrations as ADD, ADHD, and OCD—though this last benefit is not necessarily empirically proven.

,
So to play games is to invite motivation for beating your personal best, to perform in competition-mode (though this is very understated), to keep alive the hope of winning some dough. To play games is to be one of the common denominator who have latched onto the versatility of appeal, the tickle of getting out of doing some work, and the joy of winning. Something. Even if its these tokens that are virtually real but virtually useless for anything other than virtual activities. Whatever the case, it all translates to F-U-N.

Apple Desktop Computer

Are you old enough to remember the days before computers? If you are, then you know that back then, a typewriter was just a typewriter. Then IBM came out with the one with the ball. You could do something no ordinary person thought was possible-change the font.

The personal computer changed everything particularly in the way we created documents. Now the rest is history with some many applications, games; how can anyone live without a computer? The problem is that we have been brainwashed and our senses dull to into thinking there is only one type of computer. Not true.

Like you probably have, I have been tied, eye and hands, to a computer for about ten years and I too thought that all computers were created equal until I started using an Apple desktop computer or Mac.

An Apple desktop computer is about the same as an ordinary computer as a horse is to a cow. The cow runs, well, like a cow. The horse (and the Apple desktop computer) is sleek and efficient, build for performance. The cow will do what you want it to with a little encouragement. The apple desktop computer lives to follow your commands just like the horse. The cow needs to rest and often quits working 'just because'. The Mac works on and on and on because that is what it is made to do.

You might think that I am just saying this but in fact, I became a true believer after a month with my Apple desktop and suddenly realized, it had never crashed even once. The 'cow' crashes about twice a day.
Sure, if you worked with a PC for a long time, you need a period of adjustment. Not that the Apple computer is difficult; it is just slightly different. To open a file from the "finder" known on a PC as the explorer, you can't press 'return' that take some getting use to. And here is another thing that is different with an Apple desktop. No viruses. I do not even own a virus cleaning system although I keep a virus checker going in the background on my Apple desktop computer. And what do you think it finds? PC viruses that have no effect on my Mac.

Another thing about an Apple computer that is great is the automatic software updates from the Internet. Just hook up to the Net and it automatically calls home for updates. No checking the website, no figuring out what you need. The operating and installed apple software is updated automatically.

I tell my friends, my Apple desktop computer is a real computer; the "other one" is just a toy in comparison.

Desktop Computer

I am of the first generation that literally grew up with desktop computers; I remember having them in our third and fourth grade classrooms. We had the Apple IIE back then, which ran on huge floppy disks which ground away in the disk drive when we inserted them wrong. They were useful though; besides Number Munchers and Oregon Trail they taught us how to type quickly and manage to find our way around the basic operating systems. Though my parents were leery of computer technology my generation jumped into it, never afraid to go digging around inside an operating system to find what we needed.

My family got our first desktop computer when I was in middle school, and though it wasn’t much more advanced than the Apple IIE it was enough for me to keep myself occupied; I used it for typing up essays and playing a few games. We were ushered into the world wide web when I was in high school, and by the time I was in college just about everyone had a desktop computer of their own.

Now it’s tough to imagine myself without a computer, as I use it literally every day (I’m even using it to type this article). Though the internet I’m able to access just about any sort of information I need. I type all of my documents on my computer, and I usually check my email a few times every day. My desktop computer also has a DVD drive, and since I don’t own a television I watch quite a few movies from my couch, which I keep in easy view of my desktop.

Entry-level desktop computers used to start at around $1000, but now you can get a basic computer for just a few hundred dollars which can do just about everything the higher-end computers can do besides handle some intensive games and graphics programs. You can get a computer tower for even less if you already have a monitor and printer.

If you don’t have a desktop computer already it’s high time you break down and get one, especially considering how cheap desktop computers have become. Though laptops are still relatively expensive, a low-end desktop allows you to surf the internet, type up letters and documents, manage your money, play (most) computer games, and even serve as a home media center. It’s probably one of the best investments you can make, since it’s something you’ll use every single day.

Computer Monitors

Computer monitors have stayed pretty much the same for a long time. Computers have technically been around since the 1940’s, and the traditional CRT technology has been the standard for computer monitors ever since computers advanced to the point where they could display graphics.

Processors have gotten thousands of times faster, hard drives thousands of times bigger, RAM memory thousands of times more efficient, but computer monitors have been basically the same old crap for decades. Don’t get me wrong, computer monitors have certainly gotten better, but the basic technology behind them hasn’t improved much. That has all changed recently, and computer monitors have finally at least partly caught up to the advances with computers in general.

When looking for a computer monitor today, you have a number of options. The first option is still the traditional CRT, or Cathode Ray Tube, monitor. Even though there are better technologies available now, CRT monitors should not be completely overlooked. As the beginning of 2006, they are still the cheapest computer monitors available, so if you are trying to put together the most economical computer possible, you may want to go with CRT.

The CRT technology is also tried and true, and does not suffer from some of the bugs that the newer technologies are sometimes prone to. Also, CRT monitors are supposed to have the fastest response time. The drawbacks are of course their large size, they generally require more power and have a poorer picture quality compared to the newer technologies.

LCD displays are making serious inroads into the computer monitor market, and not without good reason. LCD, or Liquid Crystal Display, monitors are much smaller, require less power, and provide a sharper, clearer image compared to CRTs. LCD displays have already become the standard for the laptop computer monitors, and it is only a matter of time before they become the standard for desktops as well. Although they are more expensive than CRTs, the price tags on LCD monitors are rapidly dropping.

Another option you have if you’re looking for a computer monitor is the plasma display. Plasma displays are the high-end technology of computer monitors, and carry a heft price tag. They offer a superior picture quality capable of resolutions far greater than CRT or LCD equivalents, and are capable of displaying high definition graphics. Plasma display technology, while improving, still suffers from a number of bugs and an overall short life span, but if you’ve got the money to spare, they are certainly worth a look!

Computer Lesson

If you don’t know how to use a computer at all, it’s a good idea to get a computer lesson and get started. Even just having a basic working knowledge of how to use a computer and how to use the internet will drastically increase the amount of things you can do and open a lot of doors that would otherwise be shut for you.

Indeed, if you are still working or looking for employment (ie; not yet retired) knowing how to use a computer will allow you to do a world of different jobs you never would have been able to before. You are extremely limited in the kind of work you can do without any knowledge of computers, so it is well worth whatever the fees are for a computer lesson or two.

Of course, if you are reading this you probably already have at least a basic knowledge of computers because you are online right now. Even if you already know the basic skills to use the internet and some simple programs like word processors or spread sheet programs, an additional computer lesson or two can still be very valuable.

Most programs have loads of features above and beyond the more obvious ones. Word for Windows and Excel, for example, may seem pretty self-explanatory initially, but with a couple of computer lesson you can do things you never would have even dreamed before with even such standard programs. Even operating systems, like Windows XP or the Mac OS series have loads of features and nuances that a few computer lessons can expose for you.

I took some night school classes held at a local high school on the beast of a program that is Adobe Photoshop a while back, and the computer lessons were invaluable to me. I have just begun to crack the surface of that particular program and yet I can do things with photos I never would have imagined before.

Live classes are probably the most effective way to get a computer lesson, but another thing I recommend is buying computer courses in the form of interactive CD-ROMs or DVDs to be played on your computer. These can be done at your own convenience, in the comfort of your home, and are generally less expensive. One I recommend is ‘Video Professor’. His commercials are kind of annoying, but they are very affordable computer lessons and cover the basics for most programs you’d ever use.

Computer Game Design

Computer game design is the career of a dream come true for any hard core gaming fan. What could be more fun for a dedicated gamer than designing your own computer games and getting paid for it? Every fan of computer games has no doubt at least occasionally fantasized having a career in computer game design; as a gamer myself, I plead guilty to the same charge.

If you are dreaming of a job in the computer game design industry, the good news is it’s a huge industry and there are loads of jobs available in it. The bad news is computer game design is exceedingly difficult, and requires a rigorous working knowledge of programming languages. Getting a degree in computer science is a good start, but this is in itself no easy task. Of the six friends I had in college that were computer science majors, only one of them stuck with it to the end. It is a grueling major filled with advanced mathematics classes and tedious programming exercises.

If you love programming and don’t find it tedious at all, or at least can tolerate the tedium, computer game design may be something you could do. I think you should also have a genuine love of computer games as well, but that sort of goes without saying. My college friend that got his computer science degree is currently working for a well knowing game design company, and loves it. However, he readily admits that is nothing like he thought it would be.

Computer games today are enormous programs that can take years to complete. In the infancy of the game industry, computer game design teams often consisted of just a few people. Today, many games have several production teams consisting of up to hundreds of different people working simultaneously on different aspects of the game. However, if you prove yourself as a capable programmer, the sky is the limit on where you can go; seasoned programmers with several completed games under their belts can not only command a large salary but can have a lot of say over the direction of the game.

If programming just isn’t your thing, there are some other jobs in the computer game design field. Generally, programmers are the most sought after, but good artists and writers can be attractive employees to a game maker. While they generally don’t make as much money, graphic designers and other artists are all required to make a good game today.

Computer Flat Screens

Computer flat screens are not just a cool technological innovation; there are several more practical reasons why you may want to invest in one. Computer flat screens represent a leap in innovation and a technological breakthrough.

Not only do computer flat screens save you space on your desk, they are also more durable, offer better resolution, and may help prevent workplace injuries like sore backs and over-use injuries to which people who work for long periods of time at their computers are prone.

One great thing about computer flat screens is the amount of space that they save on your desk. While a traditional computer monitor may measure up to two feet in depth, a computer flat screen is usually no thicker than an inch or tow.

This frees up lots of space on your desk which can be used for other things, like files or office supplies, or just to give you more room to stretch out and be more comfortable in your workspace. This is especially important for the many people who work in cubicles or share offices with coworkers. Squeezing every inch of available space out of your work room can make for a much more pleasant work atmosphere.

Computer flat screens may also be more durable. A traditional computer screen works much like a miniature projector, which is why it takes up so much space. The parts can easily overheat and break, which is why a traditional computer monitor has lots of vents on it.

Computer flat screens work on a completely different principle; there are no parts or pieces to overheat in a computer flat screen, making them more durable. If you’ve sat in front of a traditional monitor all day and then spend time working with a flat screen you may even notice a difference in the radiant heat that is produced. A traditional monitor will become warm to the touch when used all day, while a flat screen will remain cool.

Lastly, computer flat screens have a better resolution and a better picture than a traditional computer monitor has. Many people start slouching and squinting and leaning in towards their computer screens as the days and weeks wear on at their jobs.

Their eyes become fatigued, their posture worsens, and their form suffers. This can result in lower back pain or injury, weakened muscles in the arms, hands, and core of the body. It can also contribute to eyestrain and carpal tunnel syndrome and other overuse injuries.

A computer flat screen offers better resolution, so eyestrain is less common. You can also keep better posture and form with computer flat screens because the display is easier to see. This prevents work related pain and overuse injury that has become more common as people spend more and more time at their offices in front of their computers.

Did you receive a decent computer education in high school? I have to say the Internet was just coming about when I was graduating. It was during my college career that I took a dive into computer education and modern technology concerning the Internet and more. I soon realized that I would need computers for pretty much any career path I chose.

This prompted me to take a few additional computer courses and broaden my computer education. I learned all about Microsoft Office, hardware, software, viruses, creating presentations, graphs, and more. This basic knowledge is truly necessary to vie in today's job market. I noticed after graduation that every job I was interested in required some computer education and skills. Some occupations more than others. I was relieved that I had the mandatory tools of the trade.

If you ponder the amount of time you interact with computers on a daily basis, you will probably be shocked. Essentially all of us, regardless of our current job, encounter computers all the time. Many of us have even resorted to online conveniences, which in turn save us a considerable amount of valuable time. Home computers and the Internet are our friends.

If you lack basic computer education and wish to get a better hold on modern technology and the future that lies ahead, it's time to take action. It's easy these days to take a computer course at your local college, or even online. This way you will have a better understanding of how the incomparable systems work. If you are not even Internet savvy, you can always ask a friend to aid you in getting online to take a course in computer education. It's for your future.

Computer Desk Furniture

When it comes to creating a home office, there are many things to think about when decorating and furnishing it. With so many different things to choose from, it can be overwhelming at times.

The most important part of a home office is usually the computer desk furniture because that is where most of your time will be spent so it needs to fit your needs as closely as possible. Computer desk furniture has to do a lot of things to be truly useful to a user.

The furniture you use in your office each day needs to be ergonomically friendly or you can find yourself in a lot of pain within just a few short weeks. So the desk itself should be of the right height and used with a chair that will let you sit correctly and comfortably to make sure muscle problems do not occur. Many people suffer from recurring pain because of an ill-fitted chair or desk. If at all possible, it’s important to correct this if it’s a problem as soon as possible.

Computer desk furniture is more than just the desk and the chair, it’s about the keyboard and mouse and even the stackable trays you have to have to keep yourself organized. If things like stackable trays or paper clip holders are not considered to be part of your computer desk furniture, there is a chance you will overlook some of it and end up compromising the best experience you can have in your new home office.

Computer desk furniture doesn’t have to be expensive to do its job, and do it well. You can usually find great deals through local furniture stores because of sales or liquidations. Purchasing older models of computer desk furniture from manufacturers can save you a lot of money too.

All in all, computer desk furniture is easy to come by, and offers many different benefits to a home office. If you find computer desk furniture that you like but you have not heard a lot about the product or the manufacturer of the product, it is understandable to be a little weary.

In this case, you can simply read reviews of what other consumers have to say on the internet at one of many available review sites. This should help to make your decision the best that it can be.

When all is said and done, it really comes down to personal taste and budget in regard to which computer desk furniture to choose from. There are so many different choices when it comes to particular pieces of office furniture, that there is no right or wrong answer to the computer desk furniture you decide on.
